Uwe Koetter is in full bloom this September with the launch of our latest “Spots of Colour” range. Captivated by the fresh beauty of spring, Johan Louw set out to design a collection that plays with colour symbolism and the artistry of nature, such as the lovely Namaqualand flowers and the unique inclusions of natural stones.
Spots of Colour features a variety of one-of-a-kind gemstones that make each and every piece a limited edition. Bursting with the vibrant colour palette of spring, this range has something for everyone.
Bi-Colour Tourmaline Ring
One of our all-time favourites, this incredibly rare bi-colour tourmaline ring features a breath-taking and unique blend of green and orange hues. The distinct colouration results from variations in trace elements like iron, magnesium and lithium during the formation of the stone. It is such an alluring testament of nature’s unique beauty and resilience! It is no surprise that bi-colour tourmalines symbolise harmony and balance!
Cabochon Rings
Here at Uwe Koetter, we’re all about notable pieces that tell their own stories. While sapphire and ruby jewellery are often shiny and faceted, our two rings cabochon design offers a fresh perspective, showcasing the stone in its raw beauty. The smooth surface allows the natural inclusions to shine, revealing the true character of the stones. We know you’ll be enamoured by the rare, uncommonly seen charm of this design, making these two rings standout additions to our collection.
History has often seen warriors wear rubies into battle as they were said to symbolise protection, courage and strength. Interestingly, it is said that Marco Polo was one of the first people to mention the ruby in historical writing after gazing upon the King of Ceylon’s large ruby heirloom over 700 years ago. It is said that he was so amazed and enraptured with its sight that he referred to it as “the most precious article that exists in the world”.
Likewise, sapphires have obtained a rich history over time. In ancient Greece, sapphires were worn as talismans to seek guidance from the oracle, while early Buddhists believed these precious stones strengthen their path to spiritual enlightenment. Sapphires also became a symbol of royal love when Prince Charles presented Lady Diana with a 12-carat blue sapphire engagement ring in 1981, which was passed down to Kate Middleton in 2010 when Prince William proposed.
Tourmaline Rings
According to an ancient Egyptian legend, the tourmaline stones embarked on a long journey from the centre of the Earth. Along the way, it passed over a rainbow and in doing so, it absorbed all its colours. For this reason, it is often referred to as the “gemstone of the rainbow.” Each tourmaline is a sight to behold in its own right. Our green-blue tourmaline is extraordinary, featuring interesting inclusions while our reddish-orange tourmaline, also known as a watermelon tourmaline, is also a standout with an exquisite, fiery aesthetic.
Known for its refreshing and revitalising qualities, green tourmaline evokes the feeling of new beginnings. Tourmaline is a versatile gemstone which can be classified into various groups based on their chemical structure. The main classifications being: Elbaite, Dravite, Schorl and Liddicoatite. Our exquisite two-stone twin tourmaline rings feature verdelite green tourmalines that are a subgroup of the Elbaite group. The stones (which, fun fact, are also the birthstone for those born in October) captivate with various hues from forest green to sea green.
Delicate Two-Stone Rings
These dynamic duos are double the dazzle, double the charm. Elegant and refined, these pieces are an enchanting touch of colour, showcasing a variety of stones such as garnet, tanzanite and yellow sapphire, tourmaline, and blue topaz. The simplicity of these rings ensures that the colour stones take centre stage. Johan Louw notes that he drew inspiration from the flowers of Namaqualand and designed these stunning sets as an homage.
Colourful Stacking Rings
Dainty, delicate and oh so delightful, these stacking rings are also a tribute to the West Coast flowers in bloom. Nothing brings Johan more joy than when his creativity is ignited by the splendour of the outdoors. Each ring showcases a unique gemstone: a lush emerald, a vibrant orange sapphire, a pink tourmaline twinkling alongside diamonds and a ravishing ruby. Set in bands of warm yellow gold, sleek white gold, and soft rose gold, these stunning gems come together in a celebration of colour.
Twin Pearl Rings
Our spring range celebrates not only the vibrant and vivid colours of gemstones but, also, the more subtle and equally mesmerising colours of pearls. Our lovely two-stone rings playfully show off the nuanced hues that can be found in pearls. From warmer tones of soft yellow and beige to cooler tones of pink and lilac, these radiant creations are a testament to the fact that even the more subtle colours of nature are equally as mesmerising.
Tahitian Black Pearl Ring | White Pearl Ring
Perfect opposites of one another, our white and black pearl rings (adorned with diamond halos) captures the diverse elegance of pearls. Our White Pearl Ring showcases the serene and well-known glow of white pearls that exudes purity and elegance, whereas our Tahitian offers more than meets the eye.
At first glance, its deep black hue is striking, but upon closer inspection, subtle glimmers of green and purple emerge, adding an extra layer of complexity. Interestingly, Tahitian pearls are primarily sourced from the black-lipped oyster which is native to the warm waters of French Polynesia, especially around the islands of Tahiti and the Tuamotu Archipelago. They symbolise mystery and elegance which makes them a luxurious and sophisticated choice when it comes to jewellery.
Limited Edition Beauties
Symbolising renewal and growth, our “Spots of Colour” collection is perfect for those who appreciate the beauty of nature and its endless possibilities. Each piece has been carefully and thoughtfully designed to capture the essence of spring, highlighting the natural vibrance of each gemstone. We present this limited edition range with the utmost of pride and hope that you love it just as much as we do!
